About
Elevator Mechanic Apprenticeship Overview
As an Elevator Mechanic Apprentice, you’ll gain hands-on experience working with various types of elevators and escalators. Depending on the company you’re hired with, you may be assigned to one of three departments: New Installation, Modernization, or Service & Repair. Some companies may have a single department that handles all three.
This is a 4-year apprenticeship program that combines on-the-job training with classroom instruction. You’ll attend class once a week for four hours after your workday, learning the technical and theoretical aspects of the trade that align with your fieldwork.
As an apprentice, your main responsibilities include preparing materials and parts for your mechanic to ensure smooth and efficient installations. You’ll also assist with rigging, hoisting, installing, cleaning, and fabricating components—everything needed to get the job done right.
